Community Support from The Melton Building Society

The Melton Donates Over £20,000 to Local Charities

In 2017 the Melton donated a total of over £20,000 to three local charities – the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance Service (DLRAA); Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland hospice, LOROS; and charity for adults with learning disabilities, Hft. The money was raised through affinity savings accounts which give savers an attractive rate of interest, whilst every year the Society donates a percentage of the average daily account balances to the relevant charity.

“LOROS helps over 2,500 patients and their families each year and this donation from the Melton will make a massive difference to our patient care services,” said Magdalena Korytkowska, Partnership Development Lead, LOROS.

Jo Payne, National Partnerships Manager, DRLAA said: “Our trauma doctors, critical care paramedics and pilots couldn’t carry out their lifesaving work without the support of organisations like the Melton. We don’t receive any government funding – we are literally lifted into the air by the generosity of the community.”

“The DLRAA, along with LOROS and Hft, provide extremely valuable services and we are proud to be able to make these donations,” said Martin Reason, Chief Executive, the Melton. “Affinity accounts enable our members to help their chosen charity as the more money they save, the more the Melton donates to the charity each year.”

The Melton has recently launched a new online affinity savings account to support The Phoenix Children’s Foundation. The Foundation owns animals ranging from donkeys and goats, to Shetland ponies and reindeer, all of whom help provide young people with opportunities to grow emotionally and learn through Animal Assisted Activity (AAA).
