How to apply

Opening an account is easy

For online accounts, you can open an account using our online portal. For all other accounts, simply download, print and complete the application form and charitable assignment. (Please refer to the investment terms and conditions for more about the charitable assignment.)

We’ll complete an electronic identification check. If this is unsuccessful, we’ll ask you to provide more ID and address verification. Like all banks and building societies, we’re legally obliged to get proof of identity from all new customers. In addition, we’ll ask existing customers to provide proof of ID if they have not previously given it. This includes proof of name and permanent address.

If you’re opening an account for a child under 16, the points below will apply to the child and each signatory to the account. However, for the child, under the list B, we can accept documents for a parent/legal guardian who lives at the same address as the child rather than for the child themselves.

Opening an account is easy: simply download, print and complete an application form. Please return your completed form, necessary ID and opening cheque to your local branch or post it to Melton Building Society, Mutual House, Leicester Road, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire LE13 0DB. Cheques should be made payable to the name of the account holder.  If you need help with your application, please telephone us on 01664 414141.

If the electronic ID check is unsuccessful, we’ll require you to produce one item from both lists A and B.

This means we are unable to accept a redacted document to verify a person’s identity due to our regulatory and legal obligation to prevent Fraud and Money Laundering. We can, however, redact a document for storage purposes should the person’s request.
